Nox Explores Existential Fears Through Driving Darkwave on “Once Now Gone” (Video Premiere)

Published: May 07, 2024

Sharing their name with the Latin word for ‘night,’ it shouldn’t be surprising that Nox is a project steeped in darkness. But more specifically, it’s really a project that taps into the energy of the night: synth-heavy darkwave that pulses with the quick heartbeat of a city awash in moonlight, stirring deep fears and delights alike. Both of the duo’s members have extensive backgrounds in extreme metal — the lineup being Inmesher (Rope Sect) and Lykaois (Hemelbestormer, Lhaäd) — but Nox’s debut album Entity operates in an entirely separate world.

In Nox’s world, the speaker-testing sawtooths of overdriven synthesizers interweave into crystalline alleys, both shadowed and neon at the same time. Lush, reverberating vocals stalk the listener in these streets, offering up meditations on space, philosophy, and beyond. As Entity meshes electronic instrumentation with poignant, personable lyrics (and highly danceable beats), it also examines the extremely frail boundaries that separate our consciousness from the uncaring void.

Today we’re premiering the video for “Once Now Gone” — both sultry and uncanny visually, while highly relatable lyrically, it traces relatable fears of purpose and of leaving the past behind.

Entity releases June 7th via Neuropa Records.
