The product of ex-members of several Nottingham bands possessing a common desire to play the music they want to listen to, O' Lovely Lie came together in 2005 when brother and sister Richard and Gemma Upton met bassist Ruth Cottam and drummer Ben Hallam. The band’s raw chemistry was immediately apparent, and keyboardist Anna Robinson was brought in soon after to bring a new dimension to the band’s sound and create a unique musical style. At times brutal and brooding ballads, which build up into a whirling melodic wall of sound, whilst at other times ragingly manic, their sound always retains a pop element. Drawing on bands such as The Cure, Joy Division, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Sonic Youth, Chameleons and Velvet Underground for inspiration, they fertilised the foundations of the sounds they heard in their heads. Characterised by textured guitars, beautiful harmonies, heavy bass lines and pounding drums, years of experimentation and ideology have led to O’ Lovely Lie’s distinctively powerful sound. O’ Lovely Lie have recently recorded their first full length album, "No In, No Out, No Echo" Check out www.olovelylie.co.uk to hear clips of all the tracks! ***Join us on FACEBOOK here *** This is what people have said: “O Lovely Lie weave and create atmospheric vibes and they are so good its almost like being manipulated—what power they possess!” - Rock3Radio "Nottingham's premier alt-rockers, O Lovely Lie create a wall of fuzzy guitars and pounding drums that transport you to a Robert Smith afterworld" - Leftlion Magazine "great, brooding songs with lots of atmosphere, and a post-90s feel" - Tasty Fanzine "Comparisons would sound only contrived, the female lead singer's voice definitely stands out amongst her peers in terms of strong vocal leads. Coupled with the harmonies the male vocal complements this beautifully. Haunting basslines and eerie melodies create a spine chilling awe which are reined in by the awesomely perfected drumlines, somewhere between angry, dark and passionate lies a lovely monster that wants to fu*k a princess then eat her dead offspring." - I’m Not From London “A tattooed pissed up barrel of a guy in a rugby shirt greeted O' LOVELY LIE with a shouts of obscenities…, but that's pretty weedy stuff up against the O'LL onslaught of weeping synth, thundering bass, crashing drums and slashing guitars. Ill tell you it straight—this lot are the chosen ones.” - Kevin Hewick, ex Factory Records On debut album, "No In, No Out, No Echo" - "This is quite simply a brilliant debut album that just gets better every time you give it a spin. There's so much depth and diversity that you sometimes get lost with all the ideas the band have, yet somehow you make the connection and manage to stay on board for the ride. It is an album that I fully recommend you check out!" - Music Liberation "Opening with the glorious guitar squall and piano line of 'Cinderella' this is an assured debut album from this Nottingham based outfit. Led by Gemma Upton's shouty (in a good way) vocals there are distinct hints of The Breeders tangling amongst influences such as The Cure and Sonic Youth." - Sound Of Violence
